NULASTIN® Active Ingredients: What We Include (And What We Exclude)
A product is only as good as the ingredients that comprise it.
Whether it’s the entrée at your favorite restaurant, the jacket at your favorite boutique, or the serum from your favorite beauty routine, the reason that you love and value each is because of the materials or ingredients that give them premium, sought-after status.
When it comes to your hair and skin, you want to make sure that you’re using products with proven, clinically tested ingredients — free of harmful toxins, chemicals, and unnecessary fillers. But what about the ingredients you see yet have no idea what they are?
Most brands make their full ingredient lists hard to find — and even harder to understand. At NULASTIN®, we’re completely transparent about what we include in our serums (and what we exclude) because we want you to feel confident using our formulas. We are often asked about the purpose of our Elastaplex® Technology, active ingredients and why we leave out certain ingredients commonly found in most beauty products.
To help you understand the compositions of our serums, we put together a list explaining the ingredients, what they do, and why we intentionally include or exclude them in our NULASTIN® products.
Included Ingredients
Biomimetic Elastin for LASH/BROW/HAIR/SKIN
An ethically sourced protein and the body’s fundamental building block for human elastin, Biomimetic elastin is a protein that surrounds the skin and connective tissue and gives skin its elasticity — think of a rubber band snapping back. This unique DNA protein is recombinant, meaning it has been ethically formed and recombined to make a new combination of genes that are more easily absorbed and recognized by the skin as elastin. Biomimetic elastin has been clinically proven to support the skin’s natural ability to produce new, healthy elastin and collagen, therefore allowing for the production of new skin cells and hair follicles.
Human Keratin® for LASH/BROW/HAIR
Another powerhouse protein unique to NULASTIN®, this recombinant (see definition above) DNA-designed protein which works synergistically alongside elastin protein, to nurture the cells that produce hair follicles. Follicles are a collection of skin cells that are the foundation for hair growth and are dependent on elastin for strong structure, function, and vitality. By replenishing elastin to the follicle, human keratin visibly restores hair density, shaping, and thickness.
SymPeptide™ for LASH/BROW/HAIR
A bioavailable (meaning your body will interact with it) keratin-stimulating peptide, SymPeptide™ has been widely used in lash and brow enhancement products for its ability to visibly improve eyelash thickness and length. It is also water-soluble, meaning that it is a great ingredient to use under makeup and with lash extensions. There are generic versions of this ingredient that are less expensive, but we choose to use the name brand as it is proven, potent, and guaranteed.
Argireline® for SKIN
Known also as Acetyl-Hexapeptide-8, this ingredient is a neuropeptide compound, which means it is a building block of a neural cell. Argireline is used in our skin care products to reduce the appearance of wrinkles brought on by repeated facial expressions. It visibly limits the number of facial muscles used in expressions and does not freeze the face or cause muscle atrophy. Studies have proven the efficacy of this ingredient — positioning it as an alternative to botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNTA). Argireline® complements our facial moisturizer and skin serum ingredient deck perfectly.
Matrixyl® for SKIN
Glycerine and Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 (Matrixyl®) is classified as an anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, regenerating, revitalizing, and repairing agent. It contains 5 amino acids and has been optimized for improved penetration and its ability to encourage the skin’s natural function. In short, it restores the skin’s youthful metabolism! Studies have shown that Matrixyl® helps repair UV damage-prone papillary dermis (photoaging).
Regenatez Amino Acids for SKIN
Another game changing combination distinct to NULASTIN®, Regenatez consists of the following:
- L-Selenomethionine
An amino acid that contains selenium and can reduce the signs of sun damage and hyperpigmentation while also providing a layer of protection against daily and excessive UV damage.
- L-Proline
A naturally occurring amino acid that your body produces on its own, L-Proline Is involved in the body's production of collagen and cartilage. It may also help strengthen and renew aging skin cells.
- L-Cysteine
A basic building block amino acid and the human body's most important antioxidant, L-Cysteine helps the skin defend itself against the visible signs of sun damage. It also aids the skin’s natural ability to rebuild tissue and speed healing.
Hepatocyte Growth Factor for LASH/BROW
Commonly referred to as HGF, Hepatocyte Growth Factor is a high-purity ingredient that helps support natural hair follicle development. It collaborates with the naturally occurring proteins that maintain the active phase of lash and brow hair growth development.
Ingredients We Don’t Include in Our Products
Vitamin C
Simply put, we don’t use vitamin C because it doesn’t last long enough on your face or in the bottle. Because it reacts to oxygen that gets into the container, vitamin C has a shelf life of about one month, and then it no longer is an effective ingredient.
Biotin
Also known as vitamin B7, biotin is often claimed to help improve hair, skin, and nail health. The truth is that researchers aren’t sure what biotin’s role in hair or skin care is. Without the science, this ingredient didn’t make the cut for our products.
Castor Oil
A multi-purpose vegetable oil used for thousands of years, castor oil has led to numerous anecdotal reports claiming that it can grow hair — including your eyelashes and eyebrows. Yet, there is no evidence and no scientific data supporting that castor oil actually helps grow hair whatsoever.
Minoxidil
Minoxidil is a medication that is typically used in hair growth products. Minoxidil does not work for everyone, and its side effects, including erectile dysfunction and loss of libido, are not worth the potential rewards. Our proprietary Elastaplex® Technology and the synergistic combination of active ingredients, provide over-the-counter, safe, superior results without these harsh side effects.
