Founder Leah Garcia's journey to building NULASTIN wasn’t born in a lab—it started with personal struggle and resilience. As a former professional mountain biker, her body had withstood its fair share of physical challenges. (Think: injuries, sun damage and more.) But it wasn’t until chronic stress took over later in life that she was forced to confront a new, confidence shaking issue: stress induced hair loss.

Living the Problem: When Stress Took Its Toll

Throughout her career, Leah’s skin and hair had been through it all, from stubborn melasma and stress induced facial paralysis to a head on collision on her bike. These issues, combined with aging and years of sun damage from time spent in the great outdoors, started to add up—and particularly manifested on her skin and hair.

Then, she was suddenly confronted with one of the biggest challenges of all: chronic stress. This neverending anxiety showed up most noticeably in her hair, falling out in chunks as she shampooed in the shower. As the shedding progressed, she even started to notice visible bald spots.

This was all happening as Leah was working in television as a sideline reporter, so she did everything she could to disguise the thinning—from avoiding certain camera angles to changing her part and hiding bald areas with clips. She was mortified, to say the least. 

Eventually, she came to the point where she realized, “This cannot continue, or I will lose all of my hair.” But when she set out to find products that could help, she was told that there was nothing she could do about it.
