When was the last time you thought, “I should take it easy on my scalp?”
Never? We get it! But taking a gentler approach to your hair care routine can make a world of difference – promoting better scalp health, improving the look of your hair and accelerating your results with our HAIR Vibrant Scalp Treatment. Here are our top 3 gentle hair routine tweaks in order of importance.
1. Hit pause on daily heat styling.
And yes, that includes hairdryers! We recommend drying on the lowest heat setting when you blow dry, air-drying wet hair as often as possible and limiting the use of styling tools like curling irons, wands and straighteners. If you can, aim to heat style no more than once a week and always use a good heat protectant spray before any heat touches your hair.
To get the most life out of your style, use a light hand with the dry shampoo, reach for cute accessories like headbands and claw clips and opt for loose updos to show off your natural texture.
2. Start with wide-toothed combs.
Brushing wet hair is a bad idea, full stop. Your hair is at its most vulnerable when it’s wet, which leaves it open to snags, split ends and breakage. We recommend gently detangling with a wide-toothed comb before bathing. Start at the ends and work your way up the hair shaft using soft, short strokes. For those with textured hair, the rules are a little different. Combing post-shower actually helps preserve your natural curl or wave pattern.
No matter the hair type, conditioning with a mask or leave-in treatment before detangling helps prevent pulling and reduce the risk of damage.
3. Keep your hair tools clean.
Hair brushes have an important job. But every day, they soak up oil, dirt, dead skin, and product buildup in your hair. Over time, without regular cleaning, you’re putting all that residual debris back into your hair every time you brush. Since some daily shedding is normal, you probably also notice some tangled hair collecting at the base of your brush.
So, how often should you be cleaning it? If you like to use product, we suggest giving it a thorough clean once a week. Otherwise, you can go 2-3 weeks between cleans.
