Most of us welcome the transition to fall with open arms but it calls for a few changes to your regular beauty routine. You might notice your skin runs a little drier (time to uplevel your moisturizing habits) and if you’re seeing more hair in your brush, on your pillow or around the drain, it’s not just your imagination. Seasonal hair loss is a very real phenomenon.
What causes seasonal hair loss?
Though there are several theories about exactly why seasonal hair loss happens, experts largely agree that it can be primarily attributed to the changes in daylight patterns along with the spring and fall weather. It’s important to note that shedding is a natural part of our hair growth process, which happens in 4 stages:
1. Anagen
This is when your hair grows a little every day (30-45 days for lashes/brows and 2-6 years for the scalp).
2. Catagen
Also known as the transition or regression phase, this is when your hair follicles shrink, allowing the strands (bulb) to extend toward the surface (2-3 weeks).
3. Telogen
This is your hair’s resting phase. Your hair bulb is inactive during this time, and the hairs eventually fall out (around 100 days).
4. Exogen
This is where new follicles are formed; a re-awakening process before your hair starts back into the growth phase.
Studies have shown that our hair often rests in the telogen phase during the summer months and enters the exogen phase, when the most shedding happens, in transitional periods like fall and spring. So, it may seem like your hair is thinning, but there may be no cause for concern since our hair and skin are affected by seasonality, too.
“Surprisingly, the exact cause of enhanced hair shedding during the summer and fall months is unknown. Scientists speculate that this is an evolutionary trait meant to keep the human body cool during the hotter months of the year.”

If you notice what you suspect is seasonal hair loss, it’s a good idea to keep a close eye on it. It should be temporary, so set a reminder to reevaluate every week or two. If things don’t improve in a few weeks, it may be time to see your doctor and rule out any underlying conditions.
Weathering seasonal changes
While we can’t change the weather, taking an offensive approach against seasonal hair loss is always a good idea. That means taking good care of your scalp, eating a nutrient-dense diet, and getting regular exercise can help stave off unwanted hair loss by supporting root health and improving circulation.
“Nourishing your body with hair follicle-fortifying foods and supplements can ensure that hair follicles function normally and can withstand environmental factors that lead to seasonal shedding.”

A solution you can trust
Seasonal changes aside, we know that more permanent hair loss happens when the natural hair growth cycle is disrupted. The specialized cells in the follicle that become the hair shaft can be depleted during the resting phase, resulting in fewer and fewer active follicles over time.
We love our HAIR Vibrant Scalp Serum because it’s the only product on the market with Elastaplex® Technology, featuring a mix of active ingredients that target every phase of the hair growth cycle. There isn’t one ingredient that single-handedly solves the issue. It’s actually a synergistic blend combined with a dynamic process that helps accelerate certain stages while slowing others and nourishing the cells that produce hair follicles.
“Nourishing cells that support normal hair growth is important, especially as we age. Cells associated with hair follicles, like dermal fibroblasts and dermal papilla cells, sustain damage in response to environmental factors like overexposure to sunlight. As such, it is equally necessary to care for the scalp as we do for facial skin.”

A blend of powerhouse ingredients
Let's take a closer look at some of our clinically proven active ingredients and their role in combating all types of hair loss for stronger, shinier, fuller-looking hair. Our groundbreaking serum is proven to activate in 6 weeks and proven to double results in 12 weeks.
Biodesigned Elastin
Biodesigned elastin addresses the anagen and late telogen stages by supporting the reawakening of healthy stem cells, replenishing the elastin root system of the hair follicles, invigorating hair growth function, and supporting normal collagen production.
Human Keratin
This novel, non-animal derived DNA protein represents one of the biggest beauty breakthroughs in the category. It addresses the telogen stage while softening and strengthening the hair shaft, signaling the follicle to maintain growth and keeping the follicle from dying.
Hepatocyte Growth Factor
This ingredient works with existing proteins to extend the productive anagen phase of the hair follicle lifecycle when the most visible growth happens and effectively shortens the catagen phase.
Biologically Active Ester
This synthesized compound addresses the anagen phase by energizing the follicles to support a healthy rate of production. It protects against breakage and thinning for visibly healthier hair over time.
