Yes, NULASTIN® uses ethically sourced proteins. All formulas meet NULASTIN Safe Science Standards℠: Dermatologist tested and formulated vegan & cruelty-free without sulfates (SLS & SLES), parabens, MI/MCI, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, talc, petrolatum & mineral oil.
NULASTIN® is a cosmetic, not a drug. Under the law, cosmetic products and ingredients do not need FDA approval with the exception of color additives (of which we have none). The FDA has consistently advised manufacturers to use whatever testing is necessary to ensure the safety of their products and ingredients. Not only does our NULASTIN collection have third-party clinical evaluations, and dermatologist and ophthalmologist (where applicable) testing, but we’ve also conducted RIPT (Repeat Insult Patch Testing), EpiOcular safety studies and our ingredients are individually labeled as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) by our FDA, OTC, CGMP, NSF licensed manufacturing standards provider.
The LASH, BROW, HAIR and SKIN products should not cause discomfort or irritation. If you tend to have a sensitivity to products, we recommend a patch test prior to use. This usually involves dabbing a small amount of product behind your ear or on your inner elbow and leaving it to dry for 48 hours. It is advisable to read the product warning label thoroughly, which is printed on the secondary packaging boxes.
During the 12-week clinical study, no subjects experienced adverse events relating to the BROW Shape Altering Serum. For the HAIR Vibrant Scalp Treatment 12-week study, three subjects experienced intermittent tingling and one participant experienced mild itchiness and sun sensitivity. Fifteen subjects that completed the LASH Follicle Fortifying Serum reported adverse events ranging from mild irritation, tingling, stinging, itchiness, redness, stickiness, bump, watery eyes or puffiness. The investigators' researched extenuating circumstances unrelated to the serum use and determined that six of the fifteen reported reactions were not attributable to the lash serum. Eyelid discoloration was reported by four participants of which two of the instances were determined not to be clearly attributable to the lash serum, and the other two reported the discoloration dissipated over time. All participants continued to use the serum. No clearly attributable causal nexus was noted for the two subjects who experienced a cyst and milia. One had something lodged under her contact lens and the other reported other contributing factors. One participant noted lash fall in conjunction with intermittent stinging and dropped out of the study. With our LASH product, it should not touch the eye and should be used as directed. Application is a thin line of serum placed on the upper eyelash line only. Please check with your optometrist to make sure you are a good candidate for our product. Ingredients are listed on the website.
When used as directed, the product should not get in your eye and should have no physiological effect on the color of your eyes. Our synergistic ingredients are designed to condition and enhance your lashes and brows. The formula has been tested and the ophthalmic safety evaluation results did not demonstrate a potential for eliciting ocular irritation to the eyelid or cornea.
Yes, when used as directed, our formulas are safe and non-irritating for those who wear contact lenses.
Our topical formulations are hormone-free and should not affect your libido or cause depression. Many hair-growth products on the market contain the ingredient Minoxidil, which is associated with common side effects including severe scalp irritation; unwanted growth of facial hair; chest pain, fast heartbeats; swelling in your hands or feet, rapid weight gain; a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out; headache, dizziness, confusion; or flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling). There is a strong marketing push for hair-growth products containing the ingredient, Finasteride. Finasteride is designed to help reduce levels of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) on the scalp. DHT is an androgen hormone responsible for biological characteristics of males, including a deeper voice, body hair, and increased muscle mass. NULASTIN® HAIR Vibrant Scalp Treatment works on a completely different premise – one that creates more vitality. Our elastin and keratin replenishment helps give back what mother nature takes away. We do not use these DHT blockers or Minoxidil in our formula.
Hair grows in stages, so shedding is natural. — The 1st stage (anagen): When your hair grows a little every day (30-45 days for lashes/brows and 2-6 years for the scalp). — The 2nd stage (catagen): The transition or regression phase — when your hair follicles shrink, allowing the strands (bulb) to extend toward the surface (2-3 weeks). — The 3rd stage (telogen): The resting phase. Your hair bulb is inactive, and the hairs eventually fall out (Around 100 days). — The 4th stage (late telogen or exogen): Reassembly. This is where new follicles are formed. Think of it as the re-awakening process before the hair starts back into the growth phase. For example, if the majority of your lashes, brows, or hair are in the third stage when you start using NULASTIN®, it’s normal that the hair will naturally fall out. Frankly, we get a little giddy over the prospect. Why? It means visible change is coming! We tend to panic when we lose an eyelash or detect a small gap. Rest assured that once you see the healthier hair coming in, you’ll be thrilled. If, for some reason, the problem persists and you do not experience the natural growth phase or you are experiencing unusual shedding and/or the loss of hair all at once, please stop using the product and consult with your doctor.
This is very unlikely. However, a small percentage of users who are genetically predisposed to facial hair have reported that they notice “peach fuzz” (vellus hair) around their crow’s feet and upper cheek area after prolonged use. Because skin is not compartmentalized, there is a possibility that for certain individuals, when healthy hair follicles are stimulated, other cells in the matrix of your skin are also visibly invigorated. What we have found is that this scenario is rare and seasonal. Depending on where you are in a hormonal cycle may also affect what you see. Most individuals over a certain age will agree that there comes a point in life when bizarre hairs pop up on the chin, a toe, or finger for no apparent reason. To mitigate this annoyance, we recommend a visit to your esthetician and waxing, threading, or plucking. Once removed, the “peach fuzz” may or may not return. Our recommendation to those who are concerned is to use less product or stop using the serum.
